Imogen Williams
Women’s Health Physiotherapist
I’m Imogen, a pelvic health physiotherapist, mum of two boys and ex-athlete. I’ve been a physiotherapist for over 14 years, working within the NHS specialising in musculoskeletal conditions. After having my two boys, I was desperate to return to exercise and help my body to heal, so I saw a pelvic health physiotherapist, took back control and returned to the things I loved.
This opened up a whole new area of physiotherapy for me that was so interesting and rewarding. I felt so passionately that women go through an incredible amount of changes during pregnancy, after giving birth, in menopause and so much could be done to help, yet the awareness of this type of physiotherapy just wasn’t there.
I took the plunge and trained up in pelvic health physiotherapy and secured a role as a Highly Specialised Pelvic Health Physiotherapist within the NHS and I’m loving every minute. I am now also creating a specialist service privately with PhysioSpace so women can self refer themselves to access this treatment in the beautiful Pontcanna Clinic in a welcoming and calm environment.
Pelvic health physiotherapy treats conditions to do with the pelvis, this might mean issues with the muscles and joints of the pelvis such as pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy or issues with the pelvic floor muscles which might cause incontinence or prolapse.
I also have a passion for sport and used to compete at a high level in athletics specialising in long and triple jump. This means I am passionate about empowering women to achieve their exercise goals or return to the sport that they love which may be held back by their pelvic health symptoms.
I am a fully certified APPI mat work Pilates instructor with additional qualifications in pre and post natal Pilates and use these skills regularly to build exercise programs for my patients to build strength, tone and improve flexibility.
