Specialist First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) Cardiff

Areas of responsibility

  1. Working as a First Contact Physiotherapist, assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions
  2. Managing a caseload of patients in a primary care setting (GP surgeries). You will often be required to be the first point of contact for patients and will need the ability to establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis. You will be required to interpret and act on assessment findings, and generate an appropriate patient management plan
  3. Be able to advise patients appropriately in ways that facilitate behavioural change, optimise individuals’ physical activity and fulfilment of personal goals and independence
  4. Have a quality driven, patient-centred approach with the ability to build strong client relationships and maintain expectations
  5. Be able to recognise when patients may require onward referral for further investigations, pharmacological input or to secondary care hospital services
  6. To maintain effective communication links with the multidisciplinary team, including Physios, GPs and support staff
  7. To attend meetings and teaching sessions organised by Physio Space clinic
  8. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities and by maintaining a portfolio which reflects personal development
  9. A high level of verbal and written proficiency in English to ensure effective communication
  10. Excellent inter-personal skills. Able to exercise personal initiative and patience when dealing with patients who have difficulty understanding their injuries or treatment proposed.
  11. Be able to work with patients who’s first language is not English using a telephone interpretation service
  12. Computer literate with a good understanding of using digital notes systems
  13. Good organisational and time management skills
  14. DBS check (ideally update service subscription)

Training & shadowing opportunities will be provided, including the use of the EMIS system for patient documentation

Location:

Working across two Cardiff sites. GP surgeries in Pengam Green and in Cardiff Royal Infirmary.

Hours:

The role is on a part-time basis. FCP sessions are 4 hours and the ideal candidate would be initially required for

1-2 sessions per week with further scope for up to 5 sessions.

Each FCP session includes a protected 30mins ‘hot review’ with an on-site GP to carry out requests such as prescriptions, fit notes and to discuss cases.

Your employment is linked with Physio Space clinic in Cardiff, which has sites in Penylan and Pontcanna. There may be opportunity for additional private practice work. Please let us know if interested.
